Dear UBC Community Member,
The Board of Governors has adopted The University Community on Campus UBC’s Housing Action Plan, UBC’s comprehensive plan to improve housing affordability and choice on the Vancouver campus for faculty, staff and students. This plan is an important opportunity to differentiate UBC from other universities, allowing us to remain a globally significant university in a high cost jurisdiction and a competitive world-wide market for talent.
With the introduction of The University Community on Campus UBC’s Housing Action Plan, UBC is dedicating up to 30% of its future housing stock to restricted housing options exclusively for faculty and staff to help UBC build a vibrant and sustainable residential community. UBC is also committed to ensuring we are able to build enough student housing supply to meet the demand through the Student Housing Financing Endowment, and the Plan commits to further supporting the student experience through new housing and advocacy programs.
I would like to offer my thanks to everyone who has participated in the process since it began in early 2011. This process has been very rewarding to me personally and is a testament to how UBC is integrating the responsible management of our land base with our goals of academic excellence and sustainability leaderships.
