To: All UBC students, faculty and staff
It is our pleasure to announce that the Board of Governors has accepted the President’s recommendation to appoint Dr. Kathleen (Kate) Ross as the new Associate Vice-President, Enrolment Services and Registrar for a five-year term commencing November 1, 2013.
Dr. Ross is currently the Registrar and Executive Director, Student Enrolment at Simon Fraser University (SFU).
Dr. Ross received a B.A. in Recreation Administration from the University of Alberta in 1982 and an M.A. in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University in 2002. She has worked extensively in co-operative education administration, first at the College of New Caledonia and then Camosun College, where she ultimately served as Registrar and Director, Student Services for seven years, before moving into her current role at SFU in 2007. In 2011, Dr. Ross received an EdD in Educational Leadership from SFU and was awarded the Dean of Graduate Studies Convocation Medal for Academic Excellence.
Dr. Ross brings a strong student focus to all areas of the portfolio. She has led initiatives to develop strategic enrolment management practices and led a major systems upgrade at SFU Enrolment Services. She has been a provincial and national champion of best practice in issues from student aid to articulation and admissions.
We would like to thank faculty members, staff, and students who participated in the search process and provided valuable feedback to the Advisory Committee. We are grateful to the members of the Advisory Committee for their commitment of time and energy throughout the search.
Thank you also to Lisa Collins and Maggie Hartley who have served as the AVP Enrolment Services and Registrar pro tem, during this interim period.
We look forward to working with Dr. Ross as she brings strong leadership skills, strategic vision, and a student-centred approach to this critical role. We hope you will join us in welcoming her to UBC.
