To: All UBC students, faculty and staff
Over the past week, UBC has experienced a number of incidents with the Connect Learning Management System where the service was unavailable to users. We know that these incidents have been disruptive, and we understand the importance of having Connect up and running, especially at this critical time of year. Start of term always presents a heavy load on campus systems, and we take every precaution in advance to avoid disruption to the community. Unfortunately, our preparations did not prevent the issues we are currently experiencing. We have engaged all relevant members of UBC IT and our software vendors to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
Our team has taken a number of remediation steps to date to add resources and address some of the symptoms we have been seeing. Our incident response team is working to significantly reduce downtime once issues occur. Unfortunately, until the team is able to determine the root cause and apply a solution, the risk of slow response times or further unplanned outages remains.
You can find more information on the UBC IT website at http://www.it.ubc.ca/services/teaching-learning-tools/connect/recent-connect-issues and outage information is available on our bulletins site, http://bulletins.it.ubc.ca or via Twitter @UBCIToutages
I regret the disruption and thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to resolve these issues.
