To: All Faculty and Staff at UBC’s Vancouver campus
ShakeOut BC, Canada’s largest earthquake drill, is on October 16 at 10.16 a.m. and I encourage everyone on campus to Drop, Cover and Hold On wherever you might be.
More than 1,200 earthquakes are recorded in BC each year and a major earthquake will eventually occur in Vancouver. ShakeOut BC is a good way to practice what to do in the event of an earthquake and a timely reminder to prepare your emergency kit.
If you’re registered for UBC Alert you’ll receive a text message at 10.16 a.m. on the 16th – this alert will clearly state that this is a drill. UBC Alert is an important part of maintaining safety and security during an emergency so it’s vital we have your current phone number; please make sure your information is up to date on http://www.msp.ubc.ca.
