Professor Santa Ono begins his role as UBC’s 15th President and Vice-Chancellor on Monday, and I would like to extend a warm welcome to him on behalf of the university community. This promises to be an exciting stage in UBC’s history, and we look forward to working with Professor Ono as he prepares to move our university, in his words, “from excellence to eminence.”

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. David Farrar for his service as Interim President and Vice-Chancellor for the past month and a half.

Dr. Farrar has enjoyed a distinguished career at UBC. He joined the university in 2007 as Provost and Vice-President Academic, and Professor of Chemistry. Subsequently, he became Senior Advisor to the President, and then took on the role of Interim President from July 1 until August 14, 2016.

After completing his term as Interim President, Dr. Farrar will embark on a period of academic leave before returning to his position in the Department of Chemistry.

Once again, on behalf of the university community, welcome to Professor Ono, and thank you to Dr. Farrar for his years of service.
