Message from Professor Ono – British Columbia Fires Appeal

To: Faculty and staff in Vancouver and the Okanagan

You will no doubt have seen the devastation that has come from the wildfires in British Columbia — devastation that is impacting thousands of people.

For some of our faculty and staff, you may be impacted directly, and our thoughts are with you and your families. UBC Okanagan is also currently acting as an advanced staging area for fire trucks and personnel from across the province, to be sent where needed in the BC Interior.

At times like this we may ask — what can I do to help? The Red Cross is supporting the province of British Columbia and local authorities in providing assistance to those affected by the wildfires.

I would like to encourage you to make a donation to this fund. No matter how small, your support will make a difference. You can donate online at http://www.redcross.ca

Your donation will help provide immediate relief such as cots, blankets, family reunification and financial assistance for food, clothing and personal needs. Beyond meeting immediate needs, your donation may also help re-entry and go towards more long-term recovery, resiliency and preparedness.

At UBC we pride ourselves on our desire and passion to help address global issues. We now have an opportunity to help a crisis far closer to home. Thank you in advance for your support.
