I am pleased to announce that Dr. Ainsley Carry has been appointed as the new Vice-President, Students, on our Vancouver campus. He will formally begin the role on April 1, 2019.

Dr. Carry joins us from the University of Southern California (USC) where he has served as Vice President for Student Affairs since August 2013. He holds a faculty position in the Rossier School of Education and has served in leadership positions at Southern Methodist University, the University of Arkansas, Temple University, and the University of Florida. Prior to joining USC Dr. Carry served as Vice President for Student Affairs at Auburn University.

Dr. Carry brings deep expertise in student support and advocacy and creating educational experiences outside the classroom. I am confident that he will be a strong addition to our leadership team at UBC.

As we welcome Dr. Carry, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Andrew Parr for his service as Interim Vice-President, Students, during our transition in leadership of the portfolio. I would also like to thank Dr. Louise Cowin once again, for her service in the Vice-President, Students, role from 2011 to 2018.

Finally, I wish to thank the members of the search committee which comprised representatives from our student community, Faculties, senior staff and the Board of Governors. They were all instrumental in helping to find such an outstanding candidate.

Students are at the heart of everything we do. In this spirit, I am excited to welcome Dr. Carry and look forward to working with him to advance our excellence in student experience, scholarship and wellbeing. Please join me in welcoming him to UBC.
