Suicide Awareness Day 2017

To: Students in Vancouver

Each year, a number of UBC students, faculty, and staff consider suicide.

Reaching out early and preventing suicide requires the help of everyone in the UBC community.

What you can do:

  • Learn about suicide warning signs, find out how to talk about it, and familiarize yourself with support services and resources at thrive.ubc.ca.
  • Wear orange on Wednesday, January 25, UBC’s Suicide Awareness Day, to show your support for people who have been affected by suicide and those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts.
  • If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or are concerned about someone else, reach out and connect with resources such as Mental Health Support (students.ubc.ca/health-wellness/mental-health-support) or 1-800-SUICIDE (784-2433).

If you are thinking about suicide yourself, or you hear indications that someone else in the UBC community may be experiencing suicidal thoughts, the most important thing you can do is reach out.
