Connected by Commitment 2014-2015 Annual Report

July 23, 2015

To all UBC Faculty and Staff

Connected by Commitment 2014-2015 Annual Report

I am pleased to share the University of British Columbia’s Connected by Commitment 2014-2015 Annual Report. UBC communicates our progress each year through a mix of storytelling and metrics that exemplify the achievements of our students, faculty, staff and alumni as they support the nine commitments of the university’s strategic plan, Place and Promise.

On a personal note, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at both campuses for providing me with your perspective and wisdom over the past year. Listening to your ideas about how UBC can strengthen our contribution to the social, cultural and economic health of the communities we serve has been a highlight in my first twelve months as President – and I look forward to more in the future as we act on many of the suggestions received.

Ideas for new ways of working

One recent listening initiative was our invitation to faculty, staff and students to submit suggestions for new ways of working. This formed part of an effort to involve the UBC community in conversations around how we can do things more effectively and efficiently. The submissions focussed on areas such as data integration, organizational efficiencies and increasing UBC’s in-house consulting capacity.

Over the summer, a review committee led by the Provost’s offices from Vancouver and the Okanagan will consider these suggestions in detail. We look forward to sharing more information in due course and I want to thank everyone who took the time to submit an idea. We are planning to make this an annual event so I hope many more of you will submit suggestions in the spring of 2016.

Thank you once again for your hard work and dedication to UBC. I look forward to a successful year ahead.

Arvind Gupta
President and Vice-Chancellor
