Federal Election 2015 – Getting Ready to Vote

October 6, 2015

If you are a manager of staff whose work is not computer-based, please print this email and display it in a common work area for them to review

As many of you will have noticed we have entered the final weeks of the 42nd federal general election with voting day scheduled on October 19, 2015.

The Elections Canada website has useful resources to help you exercise your right to vote. Visit http://www.elections.ca for information related to:

  • Guidance for first time voters and students
  • Information about voter registration
  • Details of where and when to vote

Please note that you must register to vote, or update your voter information by Tuesday, October 13th at 6pm.  After that, the only way to update your voter registration will be at your polling place on election day.

Elections Canada office at UBC

Elections Canada is opening an office at several campuses across the country – including UBC Vancouver. Between October 5 and October 8, 10am – 8pm, you are able to visit the following location to register, vote and get information:

Student Union Building
Ballroom
6138 Student Union Boulevard

Voting will be by special ballot and votes will count in the riding where your home address is located.  To learn more visit http://www.elections.ca/content2.aspx?section=vote&dir=campus&document=index&lang=e

A reminder for UBC managers

UBC managers are also reminded of the university’s obligations to employees who are scheduled to work on election day. More details can be found at http://www.hr.ubc.ca/memos/federal-election-oct-19-2015-oct-5-2015/

UBC encourages members of the university community to participate in the democratic process, by exercising your right to vote on October 19.
