Today UBC released the summary of a report by the Honourable Lynn Smith, which outlines her findings relating to allegations that, following the publication of a blog post by Professor Jennifer Berdahl on August 8, 2015, the Chair of the Board of Governors or individuals in the Sauder School of Business interfered with her academic freedom or violated relevant UBC policies.
As announced yesterday, the Board of Governors and the Senates of UBC have agreed to the Terms of Reference for a presidential search committee. As part of that process, faculty members, management & professional staff, and unionized staff from both campuses of UBC are to elect members to the search committee.
I am writing to inform you that the search process for the next president of UBC is now under way. However, first I want to express my most sincere thanks to Interim President Martha Piper for stepping into this very important role, bringing her immense experience and limitless passion for the university.
