Farewell to Dr. Martha C. Piper

To: Faculty, staff and students in Vancouver and the Okanagan

If you are a manager of staff whose work is not computer-based, please print this email and display it in a common work area for them to review.

Last year, Dr. Martha C. Piper returned to UBC as Interim President and Vice-Chancellor. On June 30, she will formally end her second period of leadership at UBC.

Dr. Piper’s passion and dedication have been extraordinary, and her advice to the Board and the senior administration has been invaluable.

As we look towards the future with Dr. Santa Ono, who will be our 15th President and Vice-Chancellor, I would like to acknowledge the outstanding contribution that Dr. Piper has made to our institution over the past ten months.

Not only has she brought vibrant leadership, but under her guidance the university has continued on its upward trajectory: we are proud to be now ranked as the sixth best public university in North America.

I would like to share a video in which Dr. Piper offers insights into her time at UBC. You can view the video at: http://www.ubc.ca/ubc-now/#dr-piper

On behalf of the Board of Governors, please join me in expressing sincere thanks to Dr. Piper and wishing her well.

Chair, Board of Governors
