Message from Professor Santa Ono – join the conversation

If you are a manager of staff whose work is not computer-based, please print this email and display it in a common work area for them to review.

To: Faculty, staff and students in Vancouver and the Okanagan

Today I am proud to formally begin my new role as President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia.

Many of you may have already seen my invitation to engage in a previous message, and I am grateful to all those who have reached out via email and social media. Thank you for your comments and insights.

I believe that dialogue is crucial in order to share ideas and challenges, and to bring about transformation. For these reasons, I invite you to join the conversation and share your thoughts on how we can continue to improve and strengthen our university.

Speaking to all those based on the Vancouver campus, I hope you will join me this morning at the University Commons (outside The Nest) from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., where we can meet over a free cup of coffee or tea. I hope too that this will be the first of several informal gatherings over the next few months.

For those unable to join me at University Commons, please feel free to email me at presidents.office@ubc.ca or connect with me on Twitter and Instagram (my handle is @ubcprez).

Whether you are based in Vancouver, the Okanagan, or one of our other sites, I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the next few months as I embark on this journey as President and Vice-Chancellor of UBC.

Several people have also asked about my formal installation ceremony. I can confirm the date will be November 22, 2016. More information will follow in the coming weeks.

I believe that, together, we can move UBC to the next level of excellence. Thank you for the warm welcome, and I look forward to continuing our dialogue.

Professor Santa J. Ono
President and Vice-Chancellor
