Seeking nominations for executive search committees

As you may be aware, the university is embarking on searches for a new Provost and Vice-President Academic, and a new Vice-President Research and International.

The procedures for the recommendation and selection of senior academic administrators – set out in Policy 18 (http://universitycounsel.ubc.ca/files/2013/07/policy18.pdf) – are a responsibility shared between the Board of Governors and Senates under the University Act.

The Senate has charged its elected Nominating Committee with recommending faculty members to serve on the search committees for both positions in accordance with that policy.

The Senate Nominating Committee has identified representatives to serve on these committees from both elected senators and well as the broader UBC community, and these people have indicated a willingness to serve. The Senate Nominating Committee is now inviting additional nominations of faculty members to serve on these search committees.

Nominations need to be seconded by at least three (3) faculty members and should be accompanied by a statement (up to 250 words) explaining the background of the proposed nominee and what their participation would bring to the search committee’s deliberations.

To request a nomination form, or submit any questions, please contact christopher.eaton@ubc.ca.

As it is important for these searches to commence in a timely manner, nominations are due by 4 pm on Thursday, 20 October 2016.
