Call for nominations for several search committees

To: Students in Vancouver and the Okanagan

As you may be aware, the university has embarked on executive searches for several key positions at UBC. Students form a key part of this process, and we are now inviting nominations for student representation on a number of search committees.

There are two nominating processes in place. The first process invites nominations for election by the student body. The second process invites nominations to be considered by the Senate. Please note: they each have their own forms and deadlines. Further details are below:

Process 1 – Nominations for election by the student body

There are places for students in the following categories for the following searches:

  1. President’s Advisory Committee for the selection of the next University Librarian
    a) One student (undergraduate or graduate) from the Okanagan Campus
    b) One student (undergraduate or graduate) from the Vancouver Campus
  2. President’s Advisory Committee for the selection of the next Vice-President, Research and International
    a) One graduate student from the Okanagan Campus
    b) One graduate student from the Vancouver Campus
  3. President’s Advisory Committee for the selection of the next Provost and Vice-President Academic, Vancouver Campus
    a) One graduate student from the Vancouver Campus
    b) One undergraduate student from the Vancouver Campus

If you are interested in being elected to serve on any of the above committees, please contact elections.information@ubc.ca for the required nomination form.

NOTE: A request for a nomination form must specify which of the following elections you wish to run for, as well as your campus and program. A student may run in more than one election at the same time provided they are eligible in that category. Submission of a personal statement of no more than 250 words in support of your candidacy will also be required.

Completed nominations and accompanying statements should be submitted by 4pm on Thursday, October 20th, 2016. For further information, please contact Stephanie.oldford@ubc.ca

Process 2 – Nominations to be considered by Senate

Students are invited to nominate themselves to one of the following search committees:

  1. President’s Advisory Committee for the selection of the next Provost and Vice-President Academic, Vancouver Campus
  2. President’s Advisory Committee for the selection of the next Vice-President, Research and International

The Senate Nominating Committee has already identified representatives to serve on these committees from both elected senators as well as the broader UBC community. The Senate Nominating Committee is now inviting additional nominations of students.

Nominations need to be seconded by at least three (3) students and should be accompanied by a statement (no more than 250 words) explaining the background of the proposed nominee and what their participation would bring to the search committee. Nominations are due by 4 pm on Thursday, 20 October 2016.
