As we continue through the first term of UBC’s Winter Session, I would like to share the latest updates regarding searches for key strategic roles at the university.
Following discussions at the UBC Executive, a decision has been made to amend the existing Vice-President, Research and International to Vice-President, Research (effective November 1). The search process for this position has already begun, and will continue in the coming months.
In recognition of UBC’s growing global profile and the importance of our partnerships across the world, we have also decided to consolidate UBC’s diverse international activities in the Provost’s office. This move will help to clarify roles and responsibilities, improve priority setting and enhance synergy amongst our various activities, all with the goal of strengthening our international engagement. It will also allow the Vice-President, Research to focus exclusively on the critical research mandate.
The various international units will be integrated under the leadership of a newly created position of Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, International, reporting to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic. We would appreciate your advice on how to make this role as effective as possible as we all work together to better align and integrate our international work.
We look forward to confirming the membership of the search committees for the Provost and Vice-President, Academic and the Vice-President, Research in the coming weeks. We will also be working with the assistance of the executive search firm Boyden to finalize the position profiles and outline timelines for these searches.
Finally, I would like to thank all those faculty members who applied for the role of Senior Advisor to the President. I look forward to communicating the successful candidate shortly.
