Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is held each year at UBC in January, and aims to raise awareness and understanding about the issues surrounding sexual assault. Several events have been planned for the month, including Denim Day on Wednesday, January 18. On this day, you can choose to wear denim or a Denim Day sticker to show your support for ending sexual assault on campus.

Support and resources

Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an important opportunity to highlight available support and resources should you need assistance for yourself or someone you know.

If you have been sexually assaulted, support is available on and off-campus. Resources are explained and listed on the following website: http://www.hr.ubc.ca/wellbeing-benefits/workplace-health/personal-safety-on-campus/sexual-assault-resources/

If a student discloses to you that they have been sexually assaulted, learn how to help: https://facultystaff.students.ubc.ca/sexual-assault-response-and-education/sexual-assault-assisting-student-survivors

Sexual assault affects people of all ages, gender identities or gender expressions, racial identities, abilities and sexual orientations. It doesn’t just have an impact on the individual, but on a whole community. We encourage everyone to join the conversation, and to continue to engage in this issue.
