Announcing Dr. Dermot Kelleher as UBC’s Vice-President, Health

To: Faculty and staff in Vancouver and the Okanagan

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Dermot Kelleher has been appointed as Vice-President, Health, for UBC.

Dr. Kelleher is currently Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. He will take on the role of Vice-President, Health, in addition to his responsibilities as Dean, from July 1, 2018 to July 31, 2020.

UBC is proud to host a wide range of world-renowned health programs that span our Faculties and the province as a whole. In recent years, there has been increased recognition of the need to facilitate closer cross-discipline and sector linkages. This has resulted in the creation of UBC Health (https://health.ubc.ca/).

In his role as Vice-President, Health, Dr. Kelleher will lead the work of UBC Health by strengthening our links with the provincial government, B.C. health authorities and collaborative frameworks such as the Academic Health Sciences Network. His role will also help facilitate greater collaboration and integration in research and learning across the university, with particular focus on large scale grants and new program development.

Dr. Kelleher joined UBC in 2015. Prior to this, he served as Vice-President Health and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London, where he also held a concurrent appointment as Dean of the Lee Kong Chian Medical School in Singapore until 2014.

I am pleased to be able to welcome Dr. Kelleher to his additional role as Vice-President, Health. I am confident that his expertise and leadership will continue to make a positive impact both within UBC and across our province.
