I am pleased to announce that Ms. Robin Ciceri has been appointed as the new Vice-President, External Relations, effective March 1, 2019.

In this role, Robin will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for the university’s External Relations portfolio comprising Communications, Campus and Community Planning, Government Relations and Community Engagement, Ceremonies and Events, the Learning Exchange and Robson Square. Her role will also support the university in accomplishing the vision, commitments, goals and actions as set out in our strategic plan: Shaping UBC’s Next Century.

Robin joins UBC from The Research Universities’ Council of British Columbia, where she has served as President, and brings with her extensive knowledge and understanding of BC’s post-secondary system.

Previous to this, Robin held a number of leadership positions in the Government of BC, including Deputy Minister of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development, Deputy Minister of Small Business and Revenue, Deputy Minister of Human Resources and CEO of the Public Sector Employers’ Council Secretariat. Robin currently serves on the boards of the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, the BC Academic Health Sciences Network, the Digital Technology Supercluster, LifeSciences BC and the BC Council for International Education.

As we welcome Robin, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Adriaan de Jager and Michael White for serving as co-Interim Vice-Presidents, External Relations, during our transition in leadership of the portfolio.

Finally, I wish to thank the members of the search committee which comprised representatives from our student community, Faculties, senior staff and the Board of Governors. They were all instrumental in helping to find such an outstanding candidate.

I am excited to welcome Robin and look forward to working with her to advance UBC’s reputation as a globally-influential university. Please join me in welcoming her to UBC.

Professor Santa J. Ono
President and Vice-Chancellor
