Welcome to the new academic year

If you are a manager of staff whose work is not computer-based, please print this email and display it in a common work area for them to review.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the new academic year.

Whether you’re a new or returning student, a faculty or staff member, this year is going to be unique. Many of you will be studying, teaching and working remotely, and some of you will be learning to adapt to new ways of working on our campuses and learning sites.

What remains the same this year is our commitment to ensuring that every student has an enriching and rewarding experience. With this in mind, I am pleased to share a special video message, where I discuss our plans for the Winter Session, Term 1 and 2. You can watch the video at https://president.ubc.ca/homepage-feature/2020/09/04/welcome-back-ubc/.

I am also excited to share my latest Letter from Santa. In this newsletter, I discuss our virtual welcome events and some major federal funding announcements. As usual, there’s also a round-up of news from around UBC. You can find all the stories at https://president.ubc.ca/communications/letter-to-the-community/.

As we prepare for the start of the academic year, I want to thank you once again for your patience and dedication to UBC. Whether in-person, or remote, I am excited to see our community come together once more.

Santa J. Ono
President and Vice-Chancellor
