In recent weeks, the BC Provincial Government has introduced a number of Public Health Orders related to reducing COVID-19 transmission.
Faculty, staff and students at UBC Vancouver received a UBC Broadcast on November 10, 2020 with information about the Public Health Orders — as they related to the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions. Faculty, staff and students at UBC Okanagan received a message on November 24, 2020, with further details — once the restrictions became province-wide.
We would now like to provide an additional update, which applies to all faculty, staff and students at UBC (regardless of campus location).
Active self-assessment — WorkSafeBC requirement for all faculty and staff
Faculty and staff are encouraged to continue to work remotely whenever possible. Faculty, staff and contractors who are on campus are now required to directly confirm to a supervisor (or designate) that they have completed a daily self-assessment for symptoms of COVID-19 on arrival at their workplace. Please use the BC self-assessment tool at https://bc.thrive.health/. Anyone experiencing symptoms should follow the guidance provided in the self-assessment tool. Please note that the requirement to actively self-assess is ongoing. We will provide further updates as we receive them.
Active self-assessment — for students
Students taking part in face-to-face classes, or attending campus for other reasons, now need to directly confirm to their instructor/UBC representative that they have completed a self-assessment for symptoms of COVID-19 before arriving at their class. Please use the BC self-assessment tool at https://bc.thrive.health/. Anyone experiencing symptoms should follow the guidance provided in the self-assessment tool. Please note that the requirement to actively self-assess is ongoing. We will provide further updates as we receive them.
Updating COVID-19 Safety Plans
All UBC COVID-19 Safety Plans should be reviewed, to ensure they clearly reflect the need for active daily self-assessment (with a process for confirming that daily self-assessment has taken place). As a reminder, please make sure adequate measures are also in place to ensure safety within small office spaces, break rooms and kitchens.
COVID-19 Campus Rules
The COVID-19 Campus Rules already reflect the requirement to conduct a daily self-assessment. The latest Public Health Orders also mean some adjustments to UBC’s non-medical mask policy which can be found within the Campus Rules. Please take the time to review them.
We will make every effort to provide more updates as we receive them. Thank you for playing your part in helping to reduce transmission of COVID-19.
