Consideration of the reappointment of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver

Professor Andrew Szeri joined UBC as Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver, in July 2017. As he approaches the end of his first term, he is now being considered for reappointment.

As Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver, Professor Szeri is responsible for guiding and enhancing the academic mission of the Vancouver campus. He is responsible for the institutional planning and administration of highly complex academic operations, including budgetary planning related to teaching and learning, and research initiatives.

To ensure alignment of the budget with the university’s fundamental academic purposes, the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver, is responsible for resource allocation decisions in consultation with the Vice-President, Finance and Operations. The Provost also collaborates closely on system-wide academic issues with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal, UBC Okanagan, and the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Okanagan.

An Advisory Committee has been established to review Professor Szeri’s performance and make a recommendation to the President concerning his reappointment. In accordance with Board Policy AP6, membership of the committee is as follows:

  • Paola Baca, Associate Director, Undergraduate Admissions, Enrolment Services, UBC Vancouver
  • Georgia Yee, student, UBC Vancouver
  • Oludolapo Makinde, student, UBC Vancouver
  • Julie Wagemakers, Secretary (non-voting)
