As I approach the end of my first month as President, I would like to thank you for making my family and I feel welcome. I have been impressed by everything I’ve encountered at UBC, and I feel privileged to lead such a wonderful institution.
n recent months UBC has made significant strides to improve its policies and practices for addressing and responding to sexual assault.
Recognizing the importance of this issue, I wanted to share some updates around progress and next steps. These include an extension of the consultation process and a series of information sessions.
One of my top priorities over the coming academic year will be the development of a new vision and strategic plan for UBC.
UBC has been extremely well served by Place and Promise, the plan introduced in 2009 by President Stephen Toope; since then, however, the world has changed in many ways, and our university needs to revisit its goals and priorities to reflect those changes.
September is an exciting time of year for the University. Our new undergraduate and graduate students join our community and we welcome back our returning students to this extraordinary place of learning. I would like to extend my thanks for what you do to make UBC a welcoming community for our students.
